A fuel injector is a computer controlled solenoid that is supplied with pressurized fuel by the fuel pump and when energized, releases fuel into a cylinder during the intake stroke of the engine. It is designed to spray the fuel in a specific pattern which has been determined to best atomize fuel within the cylinder insuring efficient combustion.
